Fire Risk Assessment for The Bothy Bed and Breakfast
The Threshing Barn, Stocks Lane, Privett, Hants, GU34 3NZ

The Bothy is a new build (2006) single storey, self-contained modern premises comprising of an entrance hall, bathroom and double bedroom. The outside of the building is clad in treated seasoned oak planks.

The Bothy is a non-smoking establishment. It is fitted with a smoke alarm , which is both battery and electric mains powered. It is VERY loud and can be heard from the house and much further afield. This is maintained and checked regularly.

There is no fuel within The Bothy

There are the following electrical items within The Bothy

          a) Small electric kettle for tea and coffee. Turned off at mains except when in use.
          b) Electric towel heater in the bathroom.
          c) Hair dryer which is kept on the stone floor
          d) Electric room heater. Not on unless guests require it themselves.

All electrical equipment is regularly checked and tested.

All furnishing fabrics are flame retardant. The beds and sofa meet the necessary standards.

Bed linen is a risk, as are some of the soft furnishing.

Everybody is at risk from fire at all times. Children under twelve years of age are not accepted. There are four exits from The Bothy. The entrance door, the two bedroom windows and the French doors out of the bedroom. All these exits lead directly into the garden and an area away from The Bothy

There is a powdered fire extinguisher supplied. The exits and the fire extinquisher are pointed out to guests on arrival. There is a bell supplied so that guests can call the owners. The owners bedroom also faces directly onto The Bothy, so they can be called at any time.

Fire is an ongoing risk. The owner is very aware of this and continually strives to keep The Bothy as safe as possible.
